July 7, 2019

I had to think hard this morning, to figure out what day of the week this is, and even then, I wasn't entirely sure. The 4th of July threw me off some, I'm sure, but my confusion is also partly because the days have been so relaxing.

It is Sunday morning, and we are not in a hurry. We have tried out the washer and dryer for the first time (in the Firefly RV) this morning, and we lit the stove, and I made breakfast. I fried three pieces of Applewood bacon, and then made three eggs with in pieces of bread with the centers cut out. Barry said it was good, and seemed to really enjoy it. I mentioned that it didn't really take very long, so we could do it on weekday mornings depending on what time we got up and how quickly we needed to be back on the property. He said that --- the hurry on weekday mornings --- is winding down. I said, "This place really has pull doesn't it?" and he said, "It does!"

We came out on the night of the third and back again on the night of the 4th. We watched the neighbor's fireworks and watched them go off across the bay, and on Dauphin Island. Nobody had them going really late.

The property is starting to shape up beautifully. There will always be work to do, which was part of the appeal, but it is already a very pleasant place to be.

He went out this morning to drag in his original oyster baskets and as he went, he said, "And the good thing is you can watch me from here." And, in a way that hearkened back to watching children play while I washed dishes, I kept an eye on him while he worked his baskets.

Got to have a little phone visit with Beverly. Friday was hard, but not for the reasons she had anticipated --- almost of all the patients were grumpy and mean and her laziest co-worker was even lazier than usual.

They had an earthquake about 200 miles north of them. They felt it, but she said it wasn't much. I think maybe she just doesn't want us to worry.

Michael and his friend, Monty, came up to work with Barry last Tuesday and he said they worked really well.

Yesterday was the big day for launching his version of the shellevator. He said, "It wasn't pretty, but it is launched. We launched our first boat from our ramp." When the time was right, it sank like a charm. When it was time for it come back up again, it had some ideas of its own. There was some discussion about how to remedy the situation. Andy had some ideas. He didn't think Barry's idea would work. Andy thought we had grave problems. I watched quietly, thinking to myself about all of the other times I've watched Barry see solutions where other people didn't. Barry tried his idea and ---- you know where this is going. It came back up. And then they sank it again and raised it again and sank it one more time. We have video. Video that is apparently too long and that I'm afraid to edit, so you'll just have to take my word for it --- at least until you're near Papa and his phone.
